Revolution: 3D Green Apple

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Revolution has introduced a new line of ready-to-drink beverages that combine white tea, fruit juice, and vitamins. Revolution describes the 3D beverage as:

3D blends one dimension super fruits, one dimension premium white tea, and one dimension essential vitamins for the first 3-dimensional beverage. Crisp and delicious, 3D is a powerhouse of antioxidants, all natural and low in calories.

I was very fortunate to try one of each new flavor. I started with the green apple since I felt it would be the one I’d like the least (it’s just a personal taste preference - green apple has never been my favorite). I was immediately surprised by the crisp, smooth flow of the beverage. The well-designed slim and tall 12-ounce can adds to the overall value of the product. The green apple juice is tart, but the blue agave and cane sugar sweetens the beverage to make it refreshing. The green apple flavor is reminiscent of candy sour apple flavoring. That said, this beverage is more than just green apple. It is full of antioxidants and vitamins. The white tea flavor is very faint and hard to detect. With this beverage it’s a secondary ingredient as far as overall flavoring. The color of the liquid was a pale green. 3D is a non-carbonated beverage. Overall the tea, juice, and vitamin combination (3D) is a bold statement from a tea company that is already separating themselves from the competition by offering premium products that demand your attention.

Sweet Leaf: Peach Sweet Tea

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Sweet LeafPeach is a great addition to Sweet Leaf’s classic sweet tea. The peach flavor blends well with the sugar cane and black tea flavors. This beverage is very sweet and loaded with enough peach flavoring to make you think they shoved a messy-juicy peach in the bottle.  This tea is not for dieters.  Sweet Leaf offers flavorful USDA Organic products.  They don’t apologize for the 17g of sugar per serving.  So, if you are in need of a sweet tea, and you don’t have time to make your own,  I recommend looking for “Granny” in your local grocery store.

A white blueberry delight

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Blueberry Pie White TeaDr. Tea’s Tea Garden & Herbal Emporium offers one of the best flavored white teas I’ve ever tried: Blueberry Pie White Tea. This tea is a total treat from start to finish. The fine white peony adds to the presentation of the dried product. The aroma of the dried Canadian Blueberries is absolutely breathtaking. What makes this tea special is the delicate balance of a fresh, light, naturally sweet white peony mixed with the natural flavor of fresh-picked blueberries. You will smile as you drink this tea. White tea is low in caffeine, but it is high in flavor and antioxidants. If you really want to treat yourself to an excellent loose leaf white tea, this is it.

Sweet Leaf: Diet Original Sweet Tea

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Sweet LeafIf you want the super sweet flavor of Sweet Tea, but you can’t sacrifice the calories, Sweet Leaf offers a diet variety of their original sweet tea. The only catch is the fact that it is sweetened with Splenda. If you don’t mind Splenda, you’ll be sure to enjoy this bottled tea. The bottle label sports a stamp that says, “surprise! zero calories.” Most of Sweet Leaf’s products are loaded with cane sugar and full of calories. That said, they don’t call themselves Sweet Leaf for nothin’. Sweet teas are Sweet Leaf’s specialty. In fact, that’s what I like about them. I know when I want a good ready-to-drink sweet tea, that Sweet Leaf offers an excellent product. I’m not a huge fan of Splenda, but this isn’t too bad in moderation. It offers the same black tea flavor as their original product, but since it’s loaded with Splenda, you can really taste the difference. Granny must cringe a little when she sees Splenda being dumped into her tea… As with most bottled teas, you should shake them well before drinking and refrigerate them after opening.

Dr. Tea’s: Chocolate Cream Pie Black Tea

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Dr. TeaI know what you’re thinking, “chocolate cream pie flavored tea?” I thought the same thing. Surely, there is no way that tea can taste like chocolate cream pie…well, not only can it taste dessert-like, it helps cut the cravings for the real thing.

Dr. Tea’s Tea Garden & Herbal Emporium describes the tea as: Our traditional blend of organic black tea which is hand picked from select gardens in China and India, combined with bits of chocolate and Tahitian vanilla cream to provide a robust flavor, perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth at less than 5 calories per cup.

I was absolutely floored by the rich chocolate scent of the dried tea. When you pop the lid on the tea tin, the scent immediately puts a smile on your face. The flavor of the tea is equally as impressive as its scent. The chocolate flavor mixes well with the Tahitian vanilla cream. The black tea supports all of these flavors very well. This tea is best steeped for 2 minutes in water that is around 195 degrees. I had several people try this tea, and all of them were amazed. The goal with a tea like this is to substitute high calorie snacks for a healthy alternative - tea. Dr. Tea refers to this tea as one of his craving teas. As you can see in the picture there are real chocolate morsels mixed throughout the tea. Dr. Tea’s book “The Ultimate Tea Diet” has a plethora of tea related information, and the book discusses how tea can help boost your metabolism and help you lose weight.

Upton: Lapsang Souchong Imperial

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Upton Tea ImportsLapsang Souchong is one of my favorite morning teas. The intense smoky flavor is just what I need in the morning. If you are a coffee drinker, and you are looking to switch to tea, Lapsang Souchong is the perfect tea to help you make the change. This is the type of tea that you’ll either love or hate. In short, it tastes like a campfire - I’m serious. If the thought of pine-like smoke flavoring makes your skin crawl, don’t even bother with this one. Much like Pu-erh, Lapsang Souchong is all about attitude. If you can stand the first sip, you’ll love this tea to the end. Upton’s Lapsang Souchong Imperial is one of the best I’ve tried. I steep the tea using a water temp of about 210 degrees for just a few minutes.

Upton Tea Imports describes the tea as follows: The best China Lapsang Souchong we have found. To our knowledge we are the only importer of this grade of China Lapsang Souchong. Superior in flavor. Very smoky, yet quite mellow.

Dr Tea’s: Orange Sherbet Green Tea

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Dr. TeaOrange Sherbet Green Tea is one of Dr. Tea’s signature craving teas. This tea came from Dr. Tea’s Tea Garden & Herbal Emporium. I was very excited to try this tea for many reasons. Orange sherbet is one of my favorite ice creams. The philosophy behind craving teas is to substitute the high calorie snacks with a healthy and tasty tea selection. Tea can simultaneously help boost your metabolism and help you shed some pounds. Recently, Dr. Tea authored a book titled “The Ultimate Tea Diet.” The book discusses in great detail the many health benefits of tea, and how to empower the world’s number two beverage (second only to water) to help lead a healthier life style by replacing snacks with tea. The book is a great source of tea knowledge for both the tea beginner and expert.

The orange sherbet green tea makes for a delicious cup of flavored green tea. The tea is a mix of green sencha, pieces of orange, tropical flowers, and Tahitian vanilla. I really enjoyed the citrus flavors mixing with the green tea. The touch of vanilla in the flavor is what separates this tea from other citrus flavored teas. I enjoyed this tea both hot and iced. Just keep your water temperature down around 185 degrees to avoid a bitter brew. The next time you feel like running to the ice cream shop, make yourself a cup of orange sherbet green tea and beat the craving.
