Assam or Asom, either way the tea tastes great
As I selected a tea to enjoy this morning, I started reading about Assam, a northeastern state of India located below the Himalayan foothills. Earlier this year, the cabinet of ministers in Assam proposed a name change for the ancient state from Assam to Asom. Assam is known for its natural beauty and multi-ethnic culture. Monsoon rainfall and high temperatures create the perfect conditions for tea growth.
Assam tea is a black tea grown at sea level. The tea brews very dark with a burgundy-reddish hue. As I mentioned in a previous blog, I prefer dark tea in the morning. This morning was no exception. The Assam tea was absolutely what I needed. It was very dark as I expected, and the flavor was boldly delightful. Many describe the flavor as a malty and sweet sensation.
As I take pleasure in tea, I like to imagine it in its native state. I want to be able to taste the tea and the land that enriched it throughout its growth. With Assam tea, you can truly taste the nature from the tea’s native environment. The Assam tea I’m drinking today is a second-flush (summer) clonal tea from Mangalam.
If you enjoy black tea with a dark-bold brew, this is a must try.
