AriZona: Pomegranate Green Tea

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

AriZonaIt’s hard to have a line of teas these days and not include one that is infused with pomegranate. Until I started drinking teas, I never heard of a pomegranate. This fruit is still not that popular in the U.S., but it has certainly increased its exposure to tea and fruit juice drinkers. When you start drinking tea, you learn about a lot of fruits and herbs that may not be popular in the U.S, but they are widely popular throughout the world – the pomegranate is no exception. I’ve read that pomegranates are being grown in areas of California and Arizona. With that said, it’s only fitting to try AriZona’s Pomegranate Green Tea.

Of all the teas I’ve consumed that are infused with pomegranate, I’ve never had one that is red in color. I like that AriZona actually pictured the fruit on the front of the bottle. The fruit is known to be loaded with antioxidants. The flavor derived from the seeds and arils can range from very sweet to very sour. The majority of beverages I’ve tried containing pomegranate are usually both sweet and sour. AriZona’s beverage is very tasty. The bottle label shows that this beverage is 5% pomegranate juice made from concentrate. That explains why this tastes more like a juice than a tea. I’ve tried really hard to detect the green tea flavor, but it’s a struggle. The fact that the color of the beverage is a pale shade of red lets me know that this beverage is weighted in favor of the pomegranate juice rather than the green tea.

Either way you cut it, if we judge this beverage for what it is, it is very flavorful. If you enjoy concentrated juices with a sweet and sour fruity flavor, you will like this. I’m trying to figure out what this beverage reminds me of…I guess it’s a cross between a grape and cherry flavored beverage. Again, the green tea flavor is not really present in this beverage. I tried this beverage in the 20 fl. oz. glass bottle. It contains 2.5 servings – each serving contains about 18g of sugar. The bottle label states no preservatives, no artificial colors, and no artificial flavors.

Arizona: Green Tea Energy Drink

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

Arizona Green TeaA green tea energy drink – so exciting…not really. I’m trying a product by Arizona that is a “performance blend” ready-to-drink (RTD) canned beverage. AriZona is a major player in the RTD tea industry. However, this is easily the worst AriZona tea product I have ever tried. It comes in a 16 fluid ounce can. Unfortunately, since it’s in a can, I can’t seal it and put it back in the refrigerator. There’s no way I can finish a full can anyway due to its not so pleasing flavor. I could put it in another sealed container for storage, but it’s not worth it. The initial flavor is sickening sweet with a very bitter and dry aftertaste to it. That combination does nothing for me. The smell of the beverage is equally as bad as the flavor. I can’t taste anything that reminds me of green tea. The lightly carbonated tea just seems so unnatural to me. I have to stop drinking it now. I gave this tea a few tries before I blogged about it. I have read a few positive reviews of this beverage…maybe it’s just me.

This beverage is packed with sugar – 50g. At first I thought I misread the label…it clearly states 25g per 8 fl. oz serving. AriZona does its best to dress up the can, but the beverage itself needs a little work. Now, you may like this beverage. AriZona has many tea products to choose from – many that I do enjoy! I think this product reflects their efforts to meet a growing demand for green tea products. Unfortunately, this one just doesn’t agree with my taste buds.
