Mighty Leaf: Chamomile Citrus

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Mighty LeafIt’s time for an herbal tea (aka tisane)… It’s hard for me to step back from tea (aka camellia senensis) and drink a tisane, but I do like to have one on occasion. Companies like Mighty Leaf do an excellent job of blending popular herbs and fruits together to create a healthy and comforting beverage. It’s important to know when you are drinking an herbal tea/tisane, that it doesn’t contain camellia senensis. Therefore, you are not getting the great health benefits of tea. That said, many of the popular herbal blends are known for their own distinct health properties. Although it’s rare that I drink a tisane, when I do I try to find one that is very flavorful. Most tisanes are naturally decaffeinated. So, they are perfect for an evening beverage to help you relax. Many herbal teas are known to help digestion, which makes for a smart after dinner drink.

Might Leaf describes Chamomile Citrus as: Chamomile Citrus is a refreshing infusion perfected to curl up with and savor by the sip. Made with Soothing Egyptian Chamomile flowers and subtle slices of citrus fruit, this vibrant blend will rejuvenate the spirit. From intoxicating aroma to sweet flavor, this Mighty Leaf signature blend with Chamomile, fruits and herbs reflects our vision of the artisan tea experience.

If you are looking for a flavorful beverage, Chamomile Citrus is a great choice. Mighty Leaf is always pulling through with excellent blends. Their signature artisan pouch (biodegradable) makes tisane steeping a breeze. This blend has more of a chamomile flavor than citrus flavor. The citrus flavors helped to reduce the potency of the chamomile. If you love chamomile, this one will be perfect for you.

Pairing Pear and Caramel

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

Mighty LeafMighty Leaf offers a delicious pear and caramel flavored black tea. This is a flavor pairing that I wasn’t quite certain about when I placed my order. However, after trying several cups, this is definitely one I recommend to black tea drinkers. Obviously, you need to like the flavor of a pear and caramel to enjoy this tea.

The black tea came in a sealed 4-ounce pouch. When I opened the pouch for the first time, I wasn’t overly impressed by the scent of the tea. Once the tea has steeped, the scent mellows to produce a dessert like aroma. I don’t want to get caught up on the scent, but I’m just letting you know not all teas can be judged by scent alone. Just a few minutes in 200 degree water, and you’ll have a delicious cup of tea. This is a great morning and afternoon tea.

Mighty Leaf describes the tea as: Pear Caramel is made with Washington state pears blended with Ceylon and China black tea and sweet bits of caramel.

In the end, the caramel is the dominant flavor. It’s much better than other caramel flavored teas I’ve tried.

Açaí, at last we meet

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Mighty LeafAçaí has definitely gained in popularity over the last 2 years. I’m sure many of you knew about this grape-like fruit for several years, but it’s somewhat new to me. I’ve written reviews of other beverages that contained Açaí, but I haven’t had a loose leaf tea with Açaí. Lately, I’ve been drinking a lot of Mighty Leaf tea selections. Their products have all been delicious. When I saw that they had a loose leaf black tea with Açaí, I had to buy it.

Mighty Leaf describes the tea as: Chinese black tea leaves blend with Brazilian superfood Açai (ah-sigh-ee) berries for a fruity, full-bodied brew. With a flavor reminiscent of blueberries and notes of chocolate, açai berries come from the Amazon rainforest and are known for being rich in omega fats and possess more antioxidants than pomegranates or blueberries.

After what seemed to be a long wait from Mighty Leaf the tea finally arrived. I was not impressed with their shipping time and price on this order. I’m going to let that slide this time, but compared to some of their competitors the shipping was a tad high (price) and slow on arrival. This tea has many notable qualities. First, the dry product has a lot of color to it. The scent of the tea is absolutely exquisite. The power of the scent makes your mouth water. You can see the actual dried fruit mixed in the black tea. Now, I’ve steeped this tea a few ways to test its flavor. I’ve used conventional steeping methods with a pot and strainer, and I’ve used my Zarafina tea maker suite. The flavor just cannot stand-up to its scent and presentation. Having said that, I’m experimenting with cooler water temperatures (190 degrees) to avoid a bitter aftertaste. For now, I’ll blame the bitterness on me. I refuse to add sugar to tea to make it taste good. I believe that tea should taste good without sweeteners. If it’s a ready-to-drink beverage, I’ll obviously deal with the sugar content. Basically, this tea is just one notch off from being out-of-this-world. If I can just get it right…Maybe the Açaí has a slightly bitter flavor that will take me a while to adjust to. All in all, I like it. As I’m drinking it, I’m thinking this is great. Then I’ll take another sip, and think that was kind of bitter. Do me a favor, if you want to try this tea or you’ve tried other Açaí black teas, let me know what you did to get it to your liking (besides loading it with sugar).

Mighty Leaf: Ginger Twist

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

Mighty LeafFor those of you that like a tasty tisane, I have a good one for you. It’s called Ginger Twist, and it’s from Mighty Leaf. As I write this blog, I feel a headache coming on from a lack of caffeine. However, many readers have told me that they are looking for decaf beverages. So, this is for you. Ginger Twist comes in the same artisan whole leaf pouch as Mighty Leaf’s tea. Mighty Leaf hides nothing with their pouches. You can see exactly what you are going to brew in their stylish pouches. This herbal infusion is a mix of lemongrass, tropical fruits, a touch of ginger, and mint. What a flavorful mix! I’ve had similar tisanes with many of the same ingredients, but this one is easily the most flavorful. I’m impressed at how Mighty Leaf blends their mixes. They are perfectly balanced. Honestly, I cannot pick out the dominant flavor of this tisane. The lemongrass and fruit flavors are probably the dominant flavors. I noticed the ginger and the mint just as the beverage roles around in my mouth. It smells so good! Give this one a try. It’s very relaxing.

Mighty Leaf: White Orchard

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

Mighty LeafI’ve been drinking a lot of Mighty Leaf tea products lately. So far, I’ve been impressed with every tea I’ve tried. Today, I’m drinking a white tea from Mighty Leaf. This tea is packaged in a stylish artisan whole leaf pouch. It has been a while since I’ve tried a flavored white tea. White orchard contains a flavorful mix of melon and peach with delicate notes of white tea from China. Again, I’m very impressed with Mighty Leaf’s products. Their presentation is top-notch. The artisan whole leaf pouches are very stylish. You can see the tea leaves through the pouch, which adds to the presentation and quality of the product. The melon flavor works well with the delicate flavor of white tea. The peach flavor is not as revealing as the melon in my opinion; however, it’s not really important because together they create a sensational flavor blend. The scent of the tea is phenomenal from start to finish. This is one of those teas that stimulates all of your senses. If you enjoy white tea or you are new to white tea, this is an excellent choice. I prepared the tea using water that was about 190 degrees, and I brewed the tea for 3 minutes. If you enjoy melon or peach flavors, you’ll love this tea. The white tea is low in caffeine and high in flavor.

Mighty Leaf Tea Company: Orange Dulce

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Mighty LeafIf you are looking for an absolutely delicious flavored black tea, try Mighty Leaf’s “Orange Dulce.” The dessert-like scent and flavor is incredible. You have to enjoy the flavoring of orange and vanilla to like this tea. If you do, you’ll love Orange Dulce. Mighty Leaf describes the tea as a rich brew teeming with notes of bergamot, orange, vanilla and jasmine blossoms. Made with Ceylon and China black teas. I’m mainly picking up on the citrus flavor perfectly balanced with vanilla. I’m not really picking up the jasmine blossoms. The black tea creates the perfect environment for all of the flavors to fully shine. This tea is so flavorful, I’m sure it’s the perfect blend of all the ingredients that makes it so spectacular. This is a great morning and afternoon tea. It’s very stimulating due to is inviting aroma and pleasing flavors. Since it is a black tea, it does contain caffeine. The tea I’m drinking today comes in Mighty Leaf’s artisan whole leaf pouch. The pouch itself has a unique style. Mighty Leaf tends to add a lot of value to their tea products. With so much competition out there, customers (like myself) notice the quality of Mighty Leaf products.
